What is College Knowledge?
College Knowledge is a tutoring service that is determined to make quality, personalized tutoring more affordable for middle and high school students in the Atlanta metro area and in each city that we offer our service. Simply create a free online account, search through our stellar tutors, and request the person with qualifications that best fit your student. Scheduling is very flexible, and the tutors can travel right to you.
Why is it called College Knowledge?
College students can serve as great tutors and mentors. Students in college have had the chance to really master the material in classes that younger students often struggle with, and they have recent experience with the college admissions process, standardized testing, and many other things that high school students need to know about. We can offer students the knowledge that has helped our tutors do well in high school and move on to become successful in college. Not to mention, it rhymes.
Why wouldn't I want to go to a big corporate tutoring company?
With us, your student will get personal attention. Other services often pair each of their tutors with multiple students, but by focusing on just your child our tutors can do a better job of personalizing lessons to make them more effective.

We are less expensive. By hiring altruistic college students and utilizing our efficient online scheduling system we are able to offer great service for an average of 40% less than the price of other Atlanta tutoring services. That same average discount will be the basis of our expansion into other locations, so the affordable but quality service we offer will soon reach other cities across the U.S.

College Knowledge gives you a choice of different tutors. Most of our competitors assign you the tutor who is most convenient for them, not necessarily the one who would work the best with your student. With our unique scheduling system you are free to select and change tutors as you please.

We come to you. Instead of making you come to one of our franchise locations, you can request that a tutor meet at your home, school, or wherever it is convenient.

We offer mentoring. As previously stated, some of the big name companies don't really give the opportunity for the tutor to connect with the student. We try to foster relationships where the student can learn about more than just the topics taught in their classroom at school.
What is this mentoring stuff?
Students can often use guidance in areas that are not part of their official classes. Our personalized approach provides the opportunity for our tutors to get to know the student and help them in any of a wide range of areas. Students often seek an experienced perspective on college admissions, choosing the right college, and picking a field of study, for instance, all of which are well known to college students. Other mentoring topics include leadership, personal finance, public speaking, study skills.
I've also seen some national tutor-finding websites; what makes you different?
Those sites will often let just about anyone with an attempt at a degree to sign up and be a tutor. We have an in depth selection process that helps ensure that any of the tutors that you will find on our site are very qualified.
Great, but what is it going to cost me?
Yes, of course. For example, the price of tutoring in Atlanta can be astonishing, often soaring well over $50/hr, but we have brought our price down to a relatively affordable $30/hr. We can do this because our website provides a very efficient way to set up tutoring sessions. If you request that the tutor drive to meet you, there is also an additional travel charge that depends on the distance that the tutor has to drive.
How much is it to just look up tutors?
It's completely free. You just have to make an account on this page.
Are there any up front costs to get started?
Nope. Many tutoring companies charge up to $200 for some diagnostic testing when you first sign up. We don't have to do this because our tutors actually work one-on-one with your student and learn first hand what topics need to be worked on.
Travel Fee?
For every mile the tutor has to drive (round-trip) there is a charge of $0.25. For instance, if a tutor lives 20 miles away and you request that she drive to your house, she will drive a total of 40 miles and you will be charged $10 in addition to the cost of tutoring.
The tutors come right to me?
That's right. Most of our tutors have a car and can drive and meet you just about anywhere you want. The sessions usually take place at home, but schools, libraries, and coffee shops serve as reasonable alternatives. A few of our tutors do not have reliable transportation, so you would have to drive to where they live (often to a college campus) to schedule a session with one of them. If the tutor does not have a car, you will be able to tell from the search results.
What is the payment process?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and AMEX through the Google Checkout system on our website, which is extremely secure. If you prefer, you can also pay with a check made payable to College Knowledge.
Who provides the study materials?
Most of the time, our tutors will help students using the books and materials that are already recommended by their teachers, but if needed we also provide supplementary materials.
I signed up, but I can't log in. What gives?
All new accounts have to be given access, so unfortunately there is a bit of delay between when you sign up and when you can search for tutors. This delay can last up to a day, but we will send a confirmation email when you can sign in. Please feel free to email us at info@cktutors.com if you have more questions.
How often should I sign up for a session?
Really, it depends on your situation. Typically, students do one or two sessions a week that average about 2 hours each, but one of the huge benefits of College Knowledge is that you don't have to get locked into a set amount of classes if you do not want to. Many tutoring services make you pay for a whole semester of sessions up front and restrict you to a schedule. We know that some weeks can be too busy, and during others you need all the help you can get, so with College Knowledge, you can just pay for tutoring when you need it. Of course, if you want to make a regular schedule of sessions, we would be glad to accommodate that as well!
Do I have to commit to more than one session at a time?
Nope. You can just sign up for the sessions that you want. Most of our competitors, on the other hand, lock you into a contract and charge you even if the session doesn't happen.
How do you select your tutors?
We target motivated college students who have demonstrated that they know what it takes to be successful in high school and beyond. Our tutors know the material, and they have great study habits. They are really motivated, and they are glad to help your student be successful.
What sorts of subjects can you help with?
We help with almost all of the core classes offered in high school and middle school, and a number of the electives. We have tutors that can help with preparation for the SATs, the ACT, and a number of special topics including leadership, public speaking, personal finance, college admissions, study skills, and choosing a college. Also, if there is a subject that we don't specifically offer which you would like tutoring in, just email us at info@cktutors.com and request it. We can use our connections at different colleges to find a tutor who is qualified to help your student with what they need.
How will I know if my student is making progress?
Of course test grades will be one way to see your student's progress, but with us you are also always welcome to discuss any concerns you have with the tutor. Unlike some of the more expensive tutoring services, our tutors work one-on-one with your student to really find out what they understand and what they don't. We don't simply give your student a test and feed you the results. You will be able to meet with our tutor and discuss how to effectively teach your child.
Would you communicate with my student's teachers?
Not unless you wanted us to. But if you feel that it would be helpful, many of our tutors have graduated from high schools in the area, and might already have a great relationship with your student's teachers.
Our kid is already doing well in school; can you do anything for him/her?
Our service can actually be really beneficial for students who are already doing well in school. Most tutoring companies target students who struggle through classes, but with our system your bright student can learn more than what it offered in the traditional classroom. Your student can learn about things like leadership, entrepreneurship, personal finance, public speaking, and many other skills that will enrich his or her experiences for life.
